Strengthening Capacity in Resource Mobilization, Proposal Writing, and Budget Analysis
On June 27th, 2025, AfyaFix Nutrition Health Organization had the privilege to participate in an impactful session on Resource Mobilization and Winning Proposal Writing, organized by @sikika1. This was not just a training—it was a transformative experience that blended learning, reflection, creativity, and practical engagement.
The session emphasized that fundraising begins with relationships. Key lessons included:
- The importance of strategic planning and aligning with donor priorities
- Developing strong capability statements
- Building meaningful networks for long-term sustainability
- Designing comprehensive fundraising plans
- Preparing persuasive proposals that go beyond generic narratives
As an organization, AfyaFix recognizes that capacity building in these areas is critical for strengthening the sustainability of Civil Society Organizations (CSOs). The training also highlighted the value of preparing proposals proactively, understanding donor landscapes, and avoiding common mistakes such as over-reliance on a single donor or slowing down after one success.
Interactive activities and group exercises made the session even more engaging. These thought-provoking games demonstrated the power of collaboration, strategy, negotiation, and creative thinking in mobilizing resources effectively.
Practical Engagement: Budget Analysis in Morogoro
In addition to proposal writing, AfyaFix had the opportunity to engage practically in the budget analysis process for four districts in Morogoro—Gairo DC, Ulanga DC, Malinyi, and Morogoro DC. This hands-on work deepened understanding of how public funds are allocated and monitored across critical sectors such as health, education, youth development, and social inclusion.
The training also enhanced knowledge of the Comprehensive Council Health Plan (CCHP) and its role in integrating local health priorities into district planning and financing.
Working collaboratively in groups, participants analyzed actual district budgets, identified key gaps, and developed advocacy messages to push for more inclusive, youth-responsive, and transparent budgeting.
Driving Inclusive Change
For AfyaFix, this experience reinforced that budgeting is more than numbers—it is about equity, accountability, and social justice. Strengthening capacity in resource mobilization, proposal writing, and budget advocacy equips organizations like ours to better influence decisions that shape healthier and more inclusive communities.
We extend our gratitude to @sikika1 for designing a session that combined capacity building, learning, and purpose. AfyaFix walks away from this experience better positioned to enhance our fundraising efforts and advance our advocacy for sustainable development.
